The origins of this theory can be traced in the sutras of Patanjali, where the term yoga was used for increasing calmness. According to his sutras, there are eight limbs of yoga consisting of Yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharna, dhyana, and samadhi. According to the Bhagavad Gita (2nd century BCE), Yoga is the calmness of mind in every situation. According to Brahmasutra-bhasya of Adi Shankara (3rd Century BCE) Yoga is the awareness of reality.

Therefore, yoga is a discipline that involves our senses, physical and mental health, mediation, soothing and relaxing practices to the body. The ultimate aim of this ancient practice is to increase the awareness ability or the attainment of moksha.

What are Yoga asanas?

The first requirement of a good personality is the maintenance of a good and perfect posture of the body. Related to the same notion and one of the eight limbs of Patanjali, Asanas are defined from the ancient period as a symbol of postures especially related to seating. Asanas are generally used for referring to the physical movements of the body while performing yoga. This aspect of yoga is mostly used and now has covered different types of movements under its ambit.

There is a range of Asanas to perform, but the important and common poses or Asanas are-

  1. Bhujangasana: In the current scenario, many women are facing problems related to menstruation, which is caused due to the hormonal imbalance in the body. This particular asana is a perfect solution for this problem. Along with this, it is considered useful for the removal of fatigue and mood swings.
  2. Balasan: Due to regular consumption of alcohol and cigarettes, blood circulation is affected. To eradicate this problem related to blood circulation one can give their time in doing this posture.
  3. Pada Rajakapotasana: Today everyone is busy in their busy schedule where anxiety and stress are the common problems faced by almost everyone. This asana helps in releasing the stress and anxiety and offers the body refreshment.
  4. Gomukhasana: Due to a lack of exercise or physical movements of the body, ailments such as high blood pressure and diabetes are caused to a person. Gomukhasana is considered to be a solution for the same.
  5. Sukhasana: the most basic asana, helping to relax the mind and giving calmness to the body.

Benefits of performing yoga regularly?

It has been proved by many health educators that yoga is the essential element to be performed by those persons who are suffering from diseases and wants to elevate their health by doing this ancient practice. The benefits of doing yoga cover a large portion. Some of them are listed below.
