Medical, engineering and management admission exams are the most common in India. Due to the intense competition, many students have abandoned their schooling in favor of time-consuming and expensive “entrance coaching“. Experts say that in a country with so many distinct boards, common admissions are important, but that application skills, rather than cramming, should be prioritized. Frequent changes in the pattern of examination are crucial since sticking to a ‘standard text’ or ‘standard pattern’ alone will prefer the coaching industry and the rote-learners.
Entrance examinations in India may be traced back to the University of Calcutta, which instituted the practice in 1857 to determine eligibility for admission.
ENTRANCE EXAMS FOR ENGINEERING
- Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – The Joint Entrance Examination – Main, formerly known as the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination, is an All-India computer-based test (CBT) for admission to several technical undergraduate programmes (UG) in engineering, architecture, and planning.
- Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) – The Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (previously the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an academic examination held in India every year. Under the supervision of the JAB, it is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs (Joint Admission Board).
- Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test – Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) 2021 is an entrance exam held by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, for admissions to undergraduate engineering degrees (BE) at its three campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. After passing the entrance test, students will be given admission to BE., B.Tech., B.Pharm., and M.Sc. programmes. Every year, over 3 lakh students enroll for this admission exam, which is held online.
- VIT Engineering Entrance Exam – VIT is a private deemed university in Vellore, India. VIT admits bachelor’s students through the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination, which is the institute’s own engineering entrance exam (VITEEE). Every year in the months of April and May, it is held.
- SRMJEEE – SRMJEEE is a university-level computer-based (online) admission exam for all SRM Group institutes and universities in Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, NCR – Ghaziabad, Ramapuram Part – Vadapalani, Amravati, Haryana, and Sikkim.
- National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) – The National Aptitude Test in Architecture is administered by the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture, which is part of the Council of Architecture in New Delhi. The Nationwide Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a national exam for admission to undergraduate architecture programmes.
- Indian Statistical Institute (ISI-Kolkata) – The Indian Statistical Institute is a government-run institution that teaches statistics and related sciences to students. ISI’s headquarters are in Kolkata, with four additional centres in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Tezpur. The Government of India designated ISI as an Institute of National Importance in 1959. The institute is recognised by the AICTE and is accredited by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI). It offers full-time undergraduate, graduate, and short-term courses such as B.Stat., B.Math, M.Stat., and MS. The institute also provides a variety of research grants and certification programmes.
- Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) – The IISER exam is required for admission to one of the seven IISERs BS-MS degree programmes. Admission to IISER is available through the JEE Main, KVPY, and SCB channels. Candidates can apply for admission through any of the three channels, but they must meet the qualifying requirements for each one separately.
- Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) – The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a self-contained organisation within the Department of Space (DOS). The institute has been designated as a deemed university, and NIRF 2019 has ranked it 30th in Engineering. IIST’s campus is in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, and it offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programmes.
ENTRANCE EXAMS FOR LAW
- CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) – The CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a centralised national level entrance exam for admission to India’s twenty-two National Law Universities. In India, most private and self-financed law schools use these scores for admittance. CLAT Post Graduation (CLAT PG) scores are used by public sector firms in India such as ONGC, Coal India, BHEL, Steel Authority of India, Oil India, and others to select for legal posts.
- AILET (All India Law Entrance Test) – National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) administers the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) to select students for admission to undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral (PhD) law programmes. This is a national-level entrance exam for admission to NLU Delhi’s law programmes solely. For NLU Delhi admissions, the university does not accept any other law entrance test.
- LSAT – The LSAT-India is a test of reasoning and reading abilities, not a check to determine if you’ve memorised the correct facts or calculations. The LSAT-India is based on a democratic and inclusive worldview. It asserts that students develop critical thinking abilities throughout their academic careers, and that these skills are the most important for law school. Good critical thinking skills may be learned in almost any educational programme, regardless of location, as long as it is rigorous and of good quality. To do well on the LSAT-India, no prior training in a single field or combination of fields is required. Candidates that pass the test have generalised abilities that can be used to a range of situations.
- AIL LET – The Army Institute of Law (AIL) administers the Law Entrance Test (LET) for admission to the BA LLB programme. The exam lasts two hours and is conducted entirely online. As many as 80 BA LLB places are available through AIL LET, including a quota for Army Personnel’s wards.
- DU LLB – The DU LLB is a 2-hour national-level test with 100 multiple-choice questions. GK, current events, legal and logical ability, and general English are among the topics covered.
- BHU UET – Banaras Hindu University holds two Undergraduate Entrance Tests (UET) in April and May each year for admission to two types of LL.B. programmes. Admissions are based on UET merit, eligibility conditions, and the availability of seats in specific courses.
ENTRANCE EXAM FOR MEDICALS
- NEET (UG) – The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET (UG), formerly known as the All-India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is an all-India pre-medical entrance test for students wishing to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) courses in government and private institutions in India, as well as those wishing to pursue primary medical qualification abroad.
NEET-UG became the sole entrance test for admissions to medical colleges in India after the enactment of the NMC Act 2019 in September 2019, including the All-India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), which were previously the only options.
ENTRANCE EXAM FOR FASHION DESIGNING
- NIFT Entrance exam by National Institute of Fashion Technology – NIFT is one of India’s most prestigious fashion design schools. This prominent institution was founded in 1986. In India, it is a pioneer in the field of fashion design. The textile and clothing industries have benefited from a number of fashion professionals who have graduated from the institute. To be admitted to NIFT, you must first pass the entrance exam and then go through the admissions process. On the official website of NIFT, you may find dates and other information.
- NID Entrance exam by the National Institute of Design – The National Institute of Design DAT is a design entrance test used to select applicants for B.Des and M.Des programmes. Students who pass the NID Entrance Exam will be placed on the merit list for admission. For admission to Fashion Designing at many other institutes, the NID score is also taken into account.
- CEED – The Common Admission Examination for Design (CEED) is a joint entrance exam for post-graduate courses in technological design that is held annually at all IITs and the Indian Institute of Science.
- UCEED – The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is a design entrance exam held by IIT Bombay to select candidates for admission to B.Des. programmes at IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur. The UCEED test is held once a year at a national level in 24 cities across the country.
