vivo X Fold6 vs X Fold5: Should You Unfold the Upgrade?

The vivo X Fold6 brings a faster processor, a larger battery, upgraded ZEISS cameras, and improved multitasking features, while the vivo X Fold5 remains a lighter, more affordable foldable flagship. Buyers can compare both phones and purchase their preferred model on Easy EMIs from Bajaj Finance.

vivo launched the vivo X Fold6 in India on 6th October 2026 as the successor to vivo X Fold5, which arrived in July 2025. The newer foldable focuses on better performance, longer battery life, improved photography, and productivity features, making it an attractive option for users who want more from a large-screen smartphone.

Both phones feature an approximately 8-inch foldable AMOLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate, ZEISS camera systems, and fast charging. However, the vivo X Fold6 introduces a newer Dimensity chipset, a 200MP main camera, and a larger 6,900mAh battery. The vivo X Fold5 still has advantages in weight, RAM capacity, and pricing, making the upgrade decision more interesting.

vivo X Fold6 vs X Fold5: Key specifications

The table below highlights how the main specifications of these premium foldable smartphones compare:

vivo X Fold6 vs X Fold5: Foldable features compared

●       Processor: X Fold6 gets a more powerful chipset, but X Fold5 gets more RAM

The vivo X Fold5 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with a maximum CPU clock speed of 3.3GHz. The vivo X Fold6 uses the newer Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, reaching 4.21GHz. This newer 3nm chipset should help the vivo X Fold6 handle demanding games and multitasking better while improving power efficiency.

However, the vivo X Fold5 offers more RAM at 16GB, compared to 12GB on the X Fold6, which may make app switching smoother on the previous generation.

●       Battery: Bigger capacity gives X Fold6 an edge

The vivo X Fold5 has a 6,000mAh battery, while the vivo X Fold6 increases capacity to 6,900mAh. The X Fold6 is also claimed to deliver 23% longer multitasking time, letting users work across multiple apps, attend video calls, and browse longer without recharging.

Both phones support 80W wired and 40W wireless charging.

●       Display: Similar screen sizes with better brightness on the X Fold6

The vivo X Fold5 has an 8.03-inch inner display and a 6.53-inch cover screen, while the vivo X Fold6 offers 8.02-inch and 6.51-inch displays. Both use 120Hz AMOLED panels for smooth scrolling and viewing.

The main difference is peak brightness. The vivo X Fold6 offers a higher local peak brightness of 5,000 nits, compared with 4,500 nits on the vivo X Fold5. This should make bright areas easier to see in strong sunlight, improving visibility when viewing photos, videos, or other content outdoors.

●       Cameras: X Fold6 brings a major main camera upgrade

The vivo X Fold5 has three 50MP rear cameras, while the vivo X Fold6 upgrades to a 200MP main camera with a larger 1/1.4-inch sensor. This should capture finer details, enable sharper cropping, and improve low-light photography.

Both offer 3x optical zoom, but the vivo X Fold6 adds ZEISS APO technology to reduce colour distortion around distant subjects. It also gets a dedicated V3+ imaging chip, which reduces noise, improves video clarity, and enables smoother 4K 60fps portrait recording with lower power consumption.

●       Software: X Fold6 gets the latest Origin OS

The vivo X Fold5 launched with Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15, while the vivo X Fold6 runs on Android 17-based OriginOS 7. Both support multitasking on their large foldable displays.

The vivo X Fold6 adds features like Origin Workbench and AI Cross-App Drag, making it easier to work across apps. The vivo X Fold5 still handles everyday tasks well, but the newer model offers more productivity tools.

●       Design: X Fold5 remains lighter and slimmer

The vivo X Fold5 still has a design advantage in weight and thickness. It weighs 217g and measures 9.2mm when folded (Titanium Gray), while the vivo X Fold6 weighs 228g and measures 9.4mm.

This makes the vivo X Fold5 slightly easier to carry and hold for long periods, while the vivo X Fold6 remains a little heavier. But this trade-off brings a larger battery and upgraded hardware.

vivo X Fold6 vs X Fold5: Should you unfold the upgrade?

The vivo X Fold6 offers better performance, cameras, and battery life, while the vivo X Fold5 remains a lighter, more affordable foldable. Deciding if an upgrade to the latest foldable is indeed justified depends on what buyers need:

• Buyers can choose the vivo X Fold6 for demanding tasks like heavy gaming, photography, and multitasking.
• They can choose the vivo X Fold5 for everyday use, entertainment, and productivity at a lower price, especially if prices drop after the new generation’s launch.
